News – Elvis Costello My Aim Is True (49th Anniversary Edition)
Elvis Costello célèbre My Aim Is True avec un coffret anniversaire monumental de 104 titres !
Près d’un demi-siècle après sa sortie, Elvis Costello s’apprête à rendre hommage à l’un des albums les plus influents de la new wave britannique. Le 2 octobre 2026, UMe publiera une impressionnante édition du 49e anniversaire de My Aim Is True, son premier album paru en 1977.
Ce coffret de 5 CD réunira 104 morceaux, dont 52 totalement inédits, offrant un regard inédit sur la naissance d’un disque devenu incontournable de l’histoire du rock.
Cette édition propose un nouveau remaster 2026 réalisé à partir des bandes analogiques originales, accompagné d’une quantité impressionnante de documents sonores retraçant la genèse de l’album :
- les premières démos enregistrées en solo ;
- des enregistrements des débuts avec son groupe ;
- des prises alternatives et chutes de studio ;
- des performances live rares.
Le coffret sera également enrichi de photographies inédites, de reproductions des paroles manuscrites, d’extraits de journaux personnels ainsi que de nouvelles notes rédigées par Elvis Costello lui-même.
Parmi les nombreuses raretés figurent cinq versions de « Watching The Detectives », permettant de suivre l’évolution de ce classique depuis ses premières esquisses jusqu’à sa version définitive. Quatre de ces enregistrements n’avaient jamais été publiés auparavant et sont déjà disponibles à l’écoute.
Dans les notes accompagnant cette réédition, Elvis Costello reconnaît avoir accueilli le projet avec une certaine réticence :
« Lorsque l’on m’a proposé de célébrer le cinquantième anniversaire de My Aim Is True, j’ai trouvé l’idée complètement absurde. Cela me donnait presque mal aux dents… Je ne voulais surtout pas que ce disque soit simplement exposé comme un objet de musée derrière une vitrine. »
Il poursuit en expliquant que l’enregistrement de ce premier album représentait avant tout le début d’une aventure artistique, bien avant d’imaginer rencontrer un public ou subir les attentes liées à son succès :
« Je lève néanmoins mon verre – très sobrement – à My Aim Is True et à tous ceux qui ont embarqué dans cette aventure. »
En parallèle de ce luxueux coffret CD et de sa version numérique, My Aim Is True bénéficiera également d’une nouvelle édition vinyle AAA 180 grammes réalisée à partir des bandes analogiques originales, ainsi que d’une édition CD remastérisée.
