Près d’un an après le décès de Tom Petty, un coffret posthume intitulé An American Treasure sortira le 28 septembre via Reprise Records.

  Les 60 chansons de la collection s’étendent des premiers jours des Heartbreakers aux enregistrements plus récent, y compris des démos,  des titres en live et des enregistrements de sessions inédites. La fille de Tom Petty, Adria; sa veuve, Dana; des Heartbreakers de longue date Mike Campbell et Benmont Tench; Ryan Ulate, collaborateur en ingénierie, ont travaillé ensemble pour compiler An American Treasure .

An American Treasure sera disponible en quatre formats, chacun avec une couverture conçue par Shepard Fairey. Le coffret standard comprend un double CD de 26 titres et une version six-LP de 60 chansons, un livret de 48 pages, des notes de track-by-track par le journaliste Bud Scoppa et un nouvel essai de l’auteur Nicholas Dawidoff. (Le vinyle sortira le 23 novembre.)

Une édition Deluxe comprend quatre CD et un livret de 52 pages avec des notes de Scoppa et des images inédites.

Enfin, une Super Deluxe Limited Edition offrira aux fans les quatre CD, un livre cartonné de 84 pages, une lithographie de la pochette de Fairey et des reproductions des paroles manuscrites de Petty pour quatre chansons.

Voici en avant-première, une chanson inédite intitulée “Keep A Little Soul” a été dévoilée. Elle est tirée des sessions qui ont abouti à l’album de 1982 de The Heartbreakers, Long After Dark .
